Surprise Visit Bolsters Large Field

[singlepic id=147 w=320 h=240 float=left]Last Sunday Peel Cycling Club were thrilled to have the Meyer brothers, Cameron and Travis drop in to participate in their ‘A’ grade criterium at Smeaton Way, Rockingham. It was the first race of the season at this excellent circuit, with a large group of visiting riders it promised a fast and exciting finish.

The high profile cyclists pitted their talent against local club members and visitors. It was a great experience for young and up-coming Peel riders, Wade Longworth, Glyn Fish and Alexander Williamson to go head-to-head with some of Australia’s top riders.

Northern Districts U19, Timothy Sellar led a charge closely followed by Travis Meyer to secure a 1st and 2nd place respectively with Cameron leading the peloton to a 3rd place sprint finish.

A large contingent of Peel riders is heading over to South Australia to see more talented riders in Australia’s premier cycling event the Tour Down Under. There was more excitement when we realized that club member Peter Dawson, OAM, brought his family along to introduce his son Jordon to cycle racing. Peter excelled in track and road racing having won Olympic Gold, many World and Commonwealth gold medals and records. Jordon is shown getting some last minute advice.
