Race report Dog Hill 7 August

The strong wind and threat of rain, did not put off over seventy riders at Baldivis on Saturday. Including more than ten people taking advantage of a three day licence to try out road racing.

While most of the grades had good size fields, E grade only had two junior riders and they had the hardest race of the afternoon with the wind. After three laps James Hoops out sprinted Callum Milne for the win.

Most of the bunch stayed together in D grade, with only a couple of riders getting dropped, in the bunch sprint it was Chaice Kelly-Wilson first with new road racers Naomi Evans second and Lachy Gilham third.

C grade was a little more brutal, the first two laps were at pace, the next two where slower, except in the crosswinds on Young Road. Where the pace picked up and once dropped a wheel, you where gone and not going to get back. By the start of the fifth and final lap, only 10 riders remained of the original 20. Though there was a couple of attacks it came down to a bunch sprint which was won by Danny Savage, with Paul Jones second and Scott Maidment third.

On the first lap B grade caught A grade and seven B grade riders used the confusion to their advantage and got a break. The seven put in a very quick lap to establish an advantage that the remaining B grader riders tired to close and failed, scattering riders around the course. With a little over a lap to go Jonathon Barcham, attacked his breakaway companions and stayed away to take the solo victory. Mathew Wardynec took the reduced bunch sprint for second, with Andre Mcauliffe third.

A grade featured a number of attacks and with two laps to go, serial escape artist Liam Magowan was joined by Paul Mackay. The two worked hard and built up a solid lead, in the race to the line it was Mackay first, Magowan second. With Conor Leahy attacking the pack on the final lap to claim third.
