Achievements

Major Events

The club filled a role in race delivery for the Perth City Criterium held in March, offering registration, timing, commissaires, and course officials for over 200 competitors. This event saw the largest crowds for some years.

The Peel 24 Hour in May saw 52 individuals and teams compete at the Motorplex. Personally I love this event, but it will need to attract greater interest if it is to remain viable.

Peel Women and Junior Tour was moved to September in an attempt to attract more competitors, ultimately failing in this goal and only seeing 33 entries. The Junior Road and Senior Kermesse Champs were also hosted in September at the Motorplex a week later, with over 100 competitors.

Peel Classic and State Senior Roads returned to Boddington in October, with 130 starters on the day. I think we’ve found a good location to continue visiting in the future, but I also think it’s time to consider the combination with the State Champs and to let us reclaim the Classic as it’s own event.

Club Events

There were a total of 5 Club Criteriums last Summer, with registrations averaging 120. Work goes into liaising with other clubs to avoid race-overlap, but with limited weekends available this has reduced the amount of events from previous seasons.

We held 6 Club Road Races through the colder months. Road Race Numbers over the Winter averaged around 60 entries, which is half of the same period last year. Kristan can speak to the financials more in depth, but suffice to say these races are no longer sustainable for the workload involved and increasing safety concerns.

Challenges

Volunteers

This remains one of our largest challenges, as road cycling is unlike most other sports and competitors can pick and choose when to attend.

24 Hour and PWJT Numbers

Whilst we are able to run these two events quite lean, they are not at a point of being considered successful. It will need to be a decision of the next committee whether these two events are able to continue – which is a shame given they seem to be enjoyed by all that compete.

Next Winter

The position of the departing committee is that we pursue alternate venues, and possibly race formats, for next Winter. St Albans Road on the Doghill circuit, and Orton Road on the Casuarina circuit, have both seen an increase in the volume, speed, and bad attitude of vehicles. Due to the increasing urban sprawl of Perth any new circuit may have to be located South of Pinjarra.

Vision and Goals

Strategic Plan

In an effort to crystalize our vision for the club’s future path, we recently completed the process of creating an updated Strategic Plan for the next 5 year period. The three main pillars of our activity moving forward were identified as firstly making meaningful progress on establishing a home for the club in the form of a criterium track. Secondly to continue to deliver what we can to our members in the form of racing and training opportunities. And lastly, to support and develop our volunteers which are the core of our club.
