Volunteering

bike race marshal

The club needs to know before any event if you can assist.
As a volunteer-run Club, we rely heavily on the support of our members and friends to assist with the running of race events. Even if you only volunteer once a year, it allows our regular volunteers to have a break or even a race.

Peel District Cycling Club is a volunteer organisation. The club really values its volunteers and we rely on our Committee, club members, family of members, and other interested community members to assist the club with the running of race events to allow us to be able to serve our members.
We simply cannot race without the support of our volunteers. Even if you only volunteer once a year, it allows our regular volunteers to have a break or even race.

Each club member has a responsibility to the club and fellow members to assist the club at least once per year in an event. It is your club, and without the support of our member volunteers, the club will not be able to run cost-effective racing as it does.

With all the activity on event day, it is very difficult if you volunteer on the day, please let us know beforehand. Add your name on the Volunteer Signup portal via the link below, EntryBoss, social media links or email volunteer@pdcc.asn.au with the dates and positions you can fill.
The earlier you advise the club, the better organised we are.  Without your help, the club cannot run events!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I volunteer at any race I like?
Yes as long as there are vacant positions for that race.

How do I volunteer?
You can offer to volunteer via the online Volunteer Signup links provided on volunteering tab, EnrtryBoss, social media pages or via email to volunteer@pdcc.asn.au

Does it have to be me that actually marshals on the day?
No you can ask a member of your family or a friend or even a club member who you know might not be racing. Please note they must be over 18 and be capable of performing the role.

What does a Race Marshall do?
A Race Marshall is responsible for directing or stopping competitors and reporting any incidents to the race committee for the safety of the races. Only those trained in traffic management will be allowed to stop / direct traffic as per the Traffic Management Plan for the course.
The committee will assign the Race Marshals to the specific parts of the course on the day of the race. Majority of the winter season racing will start at 2pm and usually wraps up just before 4pm, and summer racing starts at 0800 and is finished around 11am.

What does the Registration Desk do?
We no longer take cash entries on race day, the responsibilities are to:

  1. Hand out numbers and transponders as per the start list supplied.
  2. Collect licenses of competitors
  3. At the end of racing, receive numbers, transponders, and return licenses.
