Peel District Cycling Club members were among 54 riders in six races at the Wandi cycling circuit on June 16.
The younger Junior riders were off first for a single lap, their first race in the rain on wet roads.
In spite of a nervous start, they gained confidence and on completion of the lap, Elise Nankivell took first place ahead of Jake and Todd Brown.
The A grade event was next with the eight riders facing seven laps of the 9.4km circuit. A crash and punctures reduced the field to five contesting the very close final sprint. Phil Deisel took first place from Nathan Lyons, Wade Longworth and Dave Berglund.
The B grade race was contested by a mixture of Peel riders and visitors, including Darren Low from Singapore. The riders remained together throughout the race with the bunch sprint being taken by Low from Daniel Taborsky and Pedro Turibaka. Peel’s first rider in was Kurt Harmer in fourth place.
The C grade win was taken by Brent Mansfield, earning himself a promotion to B grade, from Andrew Brown, Wes Gorman and Andreas Brohmer.
Recently joined member Martin Wood took the fast run D grade race from Don Griffin and Neil Andresen and Lara Devenish just beat Nick Cowie for the E grade win.
