The Smeaton Way circuit opposite Bunnings is very popular with members. The race was well attended with a lot of members in their new club kit.
As usual the juniors kicked off the racing with Samuel Traianedes
out sprinting Grayson Renn for the win. Luca Macconnachie took third just ahead of Georgia Renn in her first race.
A grade had a small field, but was a very entertaining race with Tim Harris, breaking from the bunch to establish a healthy lead. Before Paul Cheng and Luke Matthews also escaped and slowly chased Harris down, catching him with a little more than lap to go. In the sprint Cheng won and Matthews took second on the line from a tiring Harris.
With a larger field in B grade, the racing was very aggressive, with riders constantly attacking, though nobody managed to slip away. Resulting in a bunch sprint won by Andrew Crack from Peter Mills and Michael Polmear.
The racing in C grade was very aggressive early. John Bouwknegt and Joebert Marthinus then established a break and stayed away. With Bouwknegt taking the win, Dave Porter was third.
The large D grade bunch, stayed together until with 5 laps to go, Nick Cowie attacked and rode away for the win. In the bunch sprint for minor places, Kevin Beverley took second and Tom Power third.
E grade was also a bunch sprint with Richard Ramos winning from Phil Edwards and Joshua Brown.
The club next returns to Smeaton Way on the 30 March at 8:30am for the criterium championships. For the full race results, details of future races and more information about the Peel District Cycling Club, please visit pdcc.asn.au
