Young riders dominate Dwellingup handicap

The first group of riders left Dwellingup at 2pm for the 44 kilometres to Pinjarra and return. The second group of six containing Anthony Ellison and Jordan Dawson an under 15 rider, left six minutes later. The group worked well together and by the turn around point had only lost one rider.

In contrast the third group of four riders, that left three minutes later, broke up on the first climb out of Dwellingup, with Bruce Barrington and Lachlan Connan another under 15 rider set of in pursuit of the group in front. They were close by the turn point and caught them of the approaches of the climb.

There were five more groups of riders were chasing, but only Wade Longworth from the last group starting 20 minutes behind got close to the front of the race.

The climb up to Dwellinup, saw Connan ride away from everybody to win the race. Dawson pursued him all the way to the line for second. Longworth an under 21 rider, rode the fastest overall time, overtaking 27 other riders for third. Ellison managed to chase back on to Longworth’s wheel, after being passed on the final stages of the climb for fourth. Barrington finished fifth.
